Why 3 a.m. “dots” are so important to us.

Posted by Greg Harp on April 24, 2018

Imagine a map of the United States, lit up with little dots everywhere a Graduation Alliance student is actively working on one of his or her online classes.

If you looked at the map on most days, you’d notice that between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., a lot of students are engaged in their studies. Get much earlier or much later than that, and there are a lot fewer dots. And in the wee hours of the night, there are even fewer.

But the 3 a.m. dots are important to us. Because those are often students whose lives are complicated in some way that makes it very difficult to engage in their school work during the day.

And if they struggle at 3 a.m., and can’t get help, it might be 24 hours or even longer before they are in a position to try again. That has the potential to severely set back a student, to frustrate them, and even to make them think about quitting.

We won’t let that happen. At Graduation Alliance, we provide 24-7 professional tutoring to our students, so that we’re there when they need us.

That’s just one of the things we’ve learned about helping at-risk students over our decade of doing so across the nation. Want to know what else we’ve learned?
